da supremo: There’s plenty not quite right at Tottenham Hotspur right now, but ENIC Group are pushing to turn things around, on the verge of signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid to improve Thomas Frank’s midfield.

da prosport bet: Gallagher, 25, is a multi-faceted midfielder with a seemingly unending gas tank. But he is also a leader both on and off the pitch, with a wealth of Premier League experience from his Chelsea days, also a former loanee with Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.

However, Gallagher is not going to sort out Tottenham’s attacking problems, but rather, replace Rodrigo Bentancur after the Uruguayan’s hamstring injury against Bournemouth, now expected to miss over three months of action.

Tottenham need to add attacking quality if they are to turn things around over the business months of the campaign.

Spurs set to bid for new forward

Bentancur isn’t the only one to have fallen on the fitness front. Mohammed Kudus is also out for the foreseeable future; following the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, Spurs’ lack of wide attacking depth has been aggravated.

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski remain long-term absentees, while Mathys Tel has recently been linked with a transfer away to Paris FC, but Tottenham may yet be ready to pounce on a fresh face themselves.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Tottenham are interested in signing RB Leipzig talent Yan Diomande, and while Liverpool are also in the running, it’s highly unlikely they would sanction a bid for the €100m (£87m)-rated winger this month.

A whole host of further top European suitors are interested in signing the Ivory Coast international, but Spurs’ are willing to make a ‘big offer’ this month which could end up paying long-term dividends for Frank and the club as a whole.

Why Yan Diomande would be a better move than Conor Gallagher

Diomande only turned 19 in November, but he’s proving he owns maturity and talent beyond his years, having scored seven goals and supplied three assists across all competitions for RB Leipzig this season.

He hasn’t been on the block long, but already, Diomande has been declared a “generational talent” by journalist Bence Bocsak, with his electric and incisive performances for club and country this term demanding awe and respect.

If Tottenham don’t move quickly, someone else will snap him up. After all, how can elite suitors ignore such exciting metrics and underlying data, so early into his career on the major stage?

As per data platform FBref, Diomande ranks among the top 3% of wingers across Europe’s top five leagues for progressive passes, the top 7% for shot-creating actions and the top 15% for tackles per 90, underscoring both his athleticism and technical skill.

Confident across both wings, Spurs interest may have been accelerated after the prognosis of Kudus’ hamstring injury came back. The Ghanaian is out until April, and Diomande would help fill that hole over the coming months and then some.

Gallagher is a hard-working midfielder who knows the Premier League well. He will make Tottenham better. However, Diomande is one of a kind, and the former Chelsea academy man is not going to revolutionise Spurs’ creative ability by himself.

This is why Diomande would be the cream of the crop, and why he would enact sustainable change for a frontline desperate for fresh life.

Described as a “special, special footballer” by journalist Antonio Mango, Diomande has the world at his feet, but he might find that moving to Tottenham would give him the perfect chance to foster his superstar qualities and grow into one of Europe’s leading forwards.

Given the need down N17 for such a thrilling attacking talent, this might even prove a better deal than Gallagher, should ENIC Group pull it off.
