da dobrowin: Newcastle United failed to win for the second consecutive match this afternoon, after drawing 0-0 with bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

da lvbet: Eddie Howe’s side have also now failed to score in any of the last two outings, with his side only able to register two shots on target against Rob Edwards’ men during the stalemate.

Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes were the only players to test Jose Sa in the West Midlands, subsequently showcasing the lack of quality on show in the attacking third.

As a result, the Magpies now sit eighth in the Premier League, subsequently rising back above local rivals Sunderland on goal difference after the draw.

However, the manager will no doubt be disappointed with his team’s performance, with numerous of his players falling way below the standards expected of them.

Newcastle’s poor performers against Wolves

For the 19th time in the Premier League campaign, midfielder Sandro Tonali was handed a start at the heart of the Newcastle midfield alongside Joelinton and Guimaraes.

However, it was an afternoon to forget for the Italian, as he was replaced in the 67th minute after picking up a booking and ultimately struggling to leave a positive impact on proceedings.

He only managed to make one tackle and one interception, whilst also making just five out of his 39 passes into the final third – ultimately being unable to unlock the Wolves backline.

Tonali wasn’t alone in failing to deliver, with winger Anthony Gordon once again struggling to produce his best performance in the West Midlands against the division’s bottom side.

The 24-year-old was replaced at the same time as the Italian, after failing to register a single shot on goal, whilst also creating no chances for his teammates.

As a result, the Englishman has now gone 12 months without an open play goal in the Premier League, subsequently highlighting how disappointing the attacker has been in recent times.

The Newcastle star who needs to be dropped after Wolves

Failing to secure all three points will no doubt be a huge disappointment to boss Howe, with his side ultimately struggling to break down the opposition away from home.

Missing out on a victory is one thing, but it can be somewhat acceptable when your team get unlucky, but the manner of the draw at Molineux was unacceptable.

As previously mentioned, the tally of two shots on target showcases the lack of quality in the final third, with the Magpies ultimately struggling to produce a performance capable of winning all three points.

As a result, the manager will likely have some huge calls to make within his squad, which could open up the door to potential additions during the January window.

However, one immediate change he can make to his squad is dropping striker Nick Woltemade, who once again failed to deliver despite the faith shown in him by the manager.

The German, who joined for £69m in the summer, has now failed to score in each of his last seven matches across all competitions, subsequently highlighting his recent struggles.

His showing against Wolves this afternoon was yet another example of his lack of impact on Tyneside, with questions now starting to be asked of the big-money addition.

Like Tonali and Gordon, he was replaced just after the hour mark, with his underlying stats highlighting why Howe made the right call in withdrawing him from the contest.

Woltemade was only able to complete a total of six passes during his 67-minute performance, whilst registering two shots on goal – but neither of which were on target.

He also committed a foul and was only able to come out on top in 50% of the duels he entered, with the opposition managing to keep the German extremely quiet throughout the draw.

His most alarming stat was undoubtedly his tally of just 13 touches of the ball, with goalkeeper Nick Pope managing over two times more – as seen by his total of 27.

As a result of his showing on Sunday afternoon, the striker was handed a measly 3/10 match rating by Chronicle Live journalist Lee Ryder, subsequently showcasing his struggles.

After such a showing, Howe must drop the talisman from his starting eleven, with Yoane Wissa deserving of an opportunity to lead the line on a consistent basis.

However, it’s evident that the Magpies are massively struggling in the final third, with the manager desperately needing to find a solution as soon as possible.
